A Yoga Workshop for Balance and Relaxation


Course Overview

Our nervous system is our control system. It is the way in which we receive information on how to respond with action, emotion and thought. Everything we experience in our life is processed through our nervous system and is stored there as a somatic memory. These memories set the tone of our tissues, thereby effecting the structure, flow and functions of our body.

Join me for a 2 hour workshop that explores the effects of yoga on the nervous system, and how we can utilize the techniques of pranayama (breathing), meditation and asana as tools to regulate, rebalance , and rewire the system. We will begin with a discussion about how the nervous system works, focusing on the autonomic functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic response and the role they both play in maintaining/disrupting homeostasis.

The discussion will be followed by an informed practice incorporating all the information we learned. This workshop is open to all levels of practice and experience. Come with questions, an open mind and an open heart!

Course Overview

Incorporating handstands into your yoga practice can improve your physical fitness, body awareness, and mental wellbeing. Handstands require strength in the upper body, core, and lower body, making them an effective full-body workout. Regular practice can also help you develop better balance, control, and stability in your movements, which can improve your overall yoga practice and make challenging transitions or balancing poses more manageable. Beyond the physical benefits, handstands require courage and vulnerability, which can help you develop confidence and overcome fears. The sense of accomplishment from achieving a challenging pose can be incredibly empowering and boost your self-esteem. By incorporating handstands into your yoga practice, you can improve your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing and take your practice to new heights.

The Handstand Journey 2 sessions’ workshop is a specialised yoga practice focused on teaching participants the techniques and progressions to develop their handstand practice within the context of yoga.

Whether you’re a beginner to handstands or looking to dive deeper into your handstand journey, this yoga workshop is for you.

Attending the 2 sessions is ideal for best results, however I know life gets in the way and so you can attend 1, 2 or both sessions.

What you will Learn?

01.Warm-up and Preparation

The workshop will begin with a thorough warm-up to prepare the body for handstand practice. This may include dynamic movements, stretches, and strengthening exercises targeting the core, shoulders, and wrists.

02.Handstand Fundamentals

Participants will learn the basic principles of handstands, including alignment, hand placement, and core engagement. These fundamentals are crucial for building a solid handstand practice and preventing injuries.

03.Core Strength and Stability

Yoga poses and exercises that target core strength and stability will be incorporated into the workshop. A strong core is essential for maintaining control during handstands.

04.Wall-Assisted Handstands

The workshop might introduce wall-assisted handstands to help participants gain confidence and develop their balance upside down. The wall provides support and stability, allowing participants to focus on their alignment and body positioning.

05.Balancing Techniques

Participants will be guided through various balancing techniques and drills to improve their handstand stability and control.

06.Modifications and Progressions

The workshop will cater to individuals of different skill levels, offering modifications for beginners and progressions for more advanced practitioners. This ensures that all participants can find an appropriate challenge and make progress in their handstand practice.


Your Questions Answered

  • This workshop is perfect for those newer to handstand, but with some handstand experience such as the ability to kick up to the wall. It is also designed for those who have been practicing handstand, but never formally trained that want to clean up their technique and get a straight line.

  • No. You do not need to be able to balance away from the wall. You can choose to use the wall throughout in this workshop. Learning a straight line handstand will help in your endeavor to eventually move away from the wall.

  • No, you can use the studio mats but if you have your own mat, please bring it with you
